Man collapses at Hospital Gate due to massive heart attack- doctors revive him with a string of complex procedures

Pune 16 August 2019 : It was a normal sunday for a 40 year old male who works at one of the wedding halls at Kedari Nagar . Being physically active , it sounded unusual for him when he started getting some chest pain in the morning . He started off for Inamdar Multispeciality hospital ,but before he could reach the doctor , he collapsed at the gate and was unresponsive . He was immediately rushed to the casualty by staff and some good Samaritans . With a string of aggressive procedures a team and doctors led by Cardiologist Dr Vivek Gaikwad at Inamdar Multi speciality hospital were not only able to revive , but now ready to send him home in a couple of days .

Explaining the case , Dr Vivek Gaikwad Cardiologist Inamdar Multispeciality hospital said that we received an emergency call from our casualty department at around 11 am on Sunday about a man being in unresponsive state. We immediately rushed our cardiology team there and tried to revive him with CPR for 20 minutes and 3 DC shocks . After clinical evaluation and echo test we found he had suffered a massive heart attack . Then we immediately shifted him to the Cathlab which is open on Sunday’s too. With coronary angiography we found his left artery (LAD) completely blocked / occluded . Thereafter we performed coronary angioplasty immediately on the left side artery which was blocked . He was then shifted to ICU and was on ventilator support for two days . Now he has been shifted to general room /ward and is on path of progress .

Dr Gaikwad said that the procedures had a lot of risk factors . In such cases there is a possibility that patient may suffer brain damage . But with prompt interdepartmental coordination and immediate action , the patient is absolutely fine .

Dr Gaikwad added that we do keep hearing about instances where youngsters get sudden cardiac arrest or heart attacks . One needs to careful about over exertion caused due to either work , exercise or play . Smoking and tobacco chewing are major risk factors which might lead to such episodes as in this case .

In this case the patient’s relatives at one point had lost hope .
This case also highlights the fact that if a person is lying in an unresponsive state, don’t give up , bring the person to the nearby hospital with Cathlab immediately. There is always a ray of hope .
