Ben Franklin rightly said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. To live a good life your body needs to be healthy. If you have a healthy lifestyle you are less likely to get sick. With a healthy lifestyle, you get a positive outcome like a better feeling, more relaxed, have more energy to do work and you feel positive all around.
A joint connects two bones. The structure of a joint is such it allows us to perform different movements but due to growing age or due to a sedentary lifestyle we tend to neglect it and cause damage such as excessive body weight, injury, and many more.
Approximately one-third of adults experience some type of joint pain regularly. For most, this pain occurs in the lower back area, as well as the knee, shoulder, etc. Many things can be done to prevent the aging of the joints and to promote overall health.
The first thing that can be done to make your joints healthy is to move i.e., to move your body. This is the best exercise and the most effective non-drug therapy. This will not only help you to reduce pain but will also increase muscle flexibility.
Another factor that is important for a healthy joint is a healthy body i.e., the one without the extra fat. Excess body fat stresses your joints. As your body weight increases the impact on the joint increases as well as the risk of developing joint pain and arthritis also increases. Losing weight reduces pressure on your back, hips, knees and helps prevent joint injury. Exercise can help you to lose weight and maintain a healthy weight.
Food that is high in sugar creates an acidic environment in the body that contributes to inflammation. This inflammation can cause degeneration of your joints and early aging.
Consumption of alcohol and intake of cigarettes should be avoided or stopped completely to avoid any joint conditions which could lead to degeneration of the joint such as Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
It may come as a surprise to smokers that their smoking habit is causing pain or making their existing pain more-
worst by simply understanding this concept, it is enough for the smokers to choose between quitting it for once and for all, this is the best way to treat their health problem.
Green leafy vegetables should also be preferred in daily diet as it contains antioxidants like vitamins A, C, K which protects the cells from free radical damage and joint degeneration.
By staying active and hydrated, maintaining a healthy weight and staying away from alcohol and other toxic products, and performing daily physical exercises one can greatly decrease joint pain and prevent further degeneration.
