DEPARTMENT OF ANESTHESIA
Welcome to the Department of Anesthesia in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Inamdar Multispecialty Hospital, Fatima Nagar Pune. You will find a description of the department, our faculty members as well as details of our education and research activities.
Anesthesiology today is an upcoming multimodality specialty in medical science with its spectrum ranging from perioperative patient care to pain management, critical care and palliative care. Anesthesiologists today are playing a decisive role in patient management. The need of the time is to highlight anesthesiology as a separate medical discipline in both audiovisual as well as print media.
The department is committed to evidence-based best practice, continuous quality improvement, research and teaching. The hospital has 6 fully equipped operating theaters, which cater for all major types of adult surgery & pediatric surgeries. These include obstetrics and gynecology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, urology and renal transplantation, plastic surgery, faciomaxillary surgery, ENT/head and neck surgery, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmic surgery and general surgery. Our organization provides safe & effective services in anesthesia by competent & caring consultant anesthesiologists.
Two anesthesiologists who became the founding directors in October 2009 of the company conceived Anesthesia Associates. The concept of group practice came into their mind from their original group. More talent has been added by the joining of other experienced professionals over the subsequent months and years, further additions are ongoing. Our unique strength lies in its team. Many of the anesthesiologists in our group are trained in various skills of Anesthesia and Intensive Care. This has helped them to successfully improve anesthesia standards which increased quality as well as safety for the patient. Junior Associates are groomed to improve their leadership qualities under the cover of Anesthesia Associates. The various skills acquired by our members are
- (a) Anesthesia’s for all kinds of cases
- (b) Critical care
- (c) Pain management
- (d) Transesophageal echocardiography
- (e) Fiber optic intubations
- (f) Nerve blocks
- (g) Invasive monitoring
Our group is an Anesthesia Company developed by anesthesiologists for Anesthesiologists. It allows growth of individual anesthesiologists, both clinically and administratively. Anesthesia Associates works on the principle of “group practice.” Group practice is a good business proposition for a hospital; the administration does not have to bother to headhunt for personnel. The staffing can be scaled as per the complexity and the number of cases.
Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, and working together is a success. (Henry Ford)
“The success of Team is We and not Me”
The patient population generally excludes patients less than 13 years of age and/or with an ASA classification of IV. This facility provides excellent care in a fully equipped setting for a broad range of outpatient surgical procedures by the following surgical specialties: Orthopedics, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial & Dental, Urology, Gynecology and chronic Pain. Most of the anesthetic techniques performed here include monitored anesthesia care (MAC), Bier blocks, peripheral nerve blocks, and general anesthesia using an LMA.
In this hospital, we are doing lots of orthopedic procedures including trauma, major trauma including vascular & joint replacement surgeries. Most of these surgeries are done under regional anesthesia with continuous catheter techniques.
Our group of consultants works in concert with the Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery to provide the highest quality patient care available for a wide variety of adult and pediatric heart, lung, and major vascular surgeries in a number of different venues. Surgical procedures performed here include congenital cardiac procedures, primary and reoperative high-risk coronary bypass and cardiac valvular procedures, open and stent graft repairs of acute and chronic processes involving the thoracic aorta, open and thoracoscopic lung surgeries, and other minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic procedures. Members of our division also provide 24-hour coverage of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and cath lab procedures. Thus, the Division of Cardiovascular Anesthesia provides the exemplary care at Inamdar hospital, which simultaneously aids in maintaining the outstanding skills of the division’s anesthesiologists, and provides the highest quality care for a broad spectrum of patients.
Our neuro anesthesiologists provide anesthesia care for a comprehensive spectrum of neurosurgical cases. Surgeries span the spectrum of:
- Brain tumors (adult tumors, stereotactic biopsies, acoustic neuromas, pituitary tumors)
- Epilepsy surgery
- Neurovascular surgery (aneurysm clipping, arteriovenous malformations, Moya-moya disease, extra cranial-intracranial bypass operation)
- Movement disorder surgery
- Trigeminal Neuralgia
- Pediatric Neurosurgery (Chiari Malformation, Craniosynostosis, Spina bifida, Scoliosis)
- Endovascular Neurosurgery (aneurysm coiling, arteriovenous malformations, treatment of vasospasm, stenting procedures, stroke)
Obstetric Anesthesiology is an integral division of the Department of Anesthesiology. The scope of our obstetric anesthesiology program extends beyond the provision of epidural analgesia for labor pain and regional or general anesthesia for surgical procedures. Neuraxial blockade techniques such as the combined spinal-epidural, patient-controlled epidural anesthesia, “walking epidurals”, or patient controlled intravenous analgesia for labor is available.
High-risk patients undergo a thorough evaluation and discussion of anesthetic options. In consultation with the obstetricians, as well as other specialists, an optimal delivery plan is developed, combining medical safety with the wishes of the patient. Advanced monitoring techniques, as well as management in an intensive care unit setting, are readily available as deemed necessary.
Pediatric surgical cases are now performed at inamdar hospital. We are practicing regional anesthesia & general anesthesia routinely for these patients.
MAXILLO FACIAL AND PLASTIC ANESTHESIA
All our consultants expertise in giving anesthesia for Cleft lip and Palate repair, Open reduction and internal fixation of various mandibular andmaxillary fractures, Breast reduction surgeries, rhinoplasties, reconstruction surgeries for variouscongenital defects of Face, Neck etc., Burn contracture release of Face, Neck, Axilla, Chest and Extremities and Flap reconstruction surgeries etc.
We are practicing anesthesia for kidney transplantation in our inamdar multispecialty hospital with great success.
OUTSIDE OPERATION THEATER PROCEDURES
All our consultants are confident of providing anesthesia care services to MRI, CT, X ray units and GI endoscopy units.

Our mission is to deliver the highest quality of clinical care to our patients, to guide the future development of our discipline, to train the next generation of leaders in Pain Medicine, and to facilitate ground-breaking discoveries in clinical, translational, and basic research.
ACUTE AND PERIOPERATIVE PAIN MEDICINE
We are practicing evidence based perioperative acute pain services using all recently available advanced gadgets (PCA pumps/ Elastomeric infuser pumpetc). We are practicing blocks for trauma patients in casualty to great effect for pain relief.
CLINICAL / PATIENT CARE
In the Division of Pain Medicine, our faculty relies on a collaborative approach involving our patients, their physicians and other specialists including neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, psychologists, and neurologists to implement effective short- and long-term pain treatment plans. Our faculty has expert skills in minimally invasive pain relief techniques, which enables patients to rely less on medication, and experience an improved function and quality of life.
We are using very advance gadgets in our practice in inamdar multispecialty hospital. As our hospital is fully equipped with such advance techniques & all our consultants are using them for better patient care.
WE HAVE WITH US
- Sonosite ultrasound machine
- PNS monitor
