Have you ever faced problems like long-standing pain, fatigue, sleep problems and mood swings???
All these symptoms are a matter of concern if there is no underlying obvious cause to your symptoms. At this point, you should be raising the question WHY????
One of the reasons for the above-mentioned symptoms could be fibromyalgia…
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition, which is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain with some tender points. Tender points are specific locations on which if pressure is applied, it hurts. 18 such points could be a hallmark of fibromyalgia. This pain is usually dull aching and lasts at least more than 3 months. Sleep disturbances are also noted due to pain. Lack of sound sleep leads to fatigue.
As fibro is the second most common condition affecting the joints and muscles, it can be difficult to diagnose and often misleading.
People with fibro complain of fatigue and weakness even after long periods of rest.
If such is a case with you, you must contact your health care provider to confirm the diagnosis.
Once diagnosed with fibromyalgia don’t let the muscle pain and fatigue keep you on the sidelines. You must get moving and adopt living a healthier life.
Lifestyle modifications are a must to combat the pain and fatigue caused by fibromyalgia. Modifications like doing exercises daily have proved to be helpful.
Angela Busch, Karen Barber et al conducted a study on patients with fibromyalgia, they divided subjects into 3 groups; wherein each group consisted of 30 subjects.
The study proved that the group performing aerobic exercises had better improvement in their symptoms as compared to resistive or control group, wherein the control group exhibited a worsening of their symptoms.
With aerobic exercise the heart becomes more efficient in functioning, wherein increasing the oxygen uptake of the body, increase in haemoglobin level and increase in blood volume. This leads to the reduction in pain, fatigue, improves sleep and quality of life.
Hence aerobic exercises like walking, jogging, cycling, swimming should be added to your routine to lead a healthier life with fibromyalgia.
